Ethipothala Waterfalls with high river cascade

It is a high river cascade with a height of 70feet, is situated in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. It is located on the river Chandravanka, which is a tributary of river Krishna. This waterfall is fromed mainly by three streams namely Chandravanka Vaagu, Nakkala Vaagu and Tummala Vaagu.

This waterfall is situated at a distance of 11km from Nagarjuna sagar, about 175km from Hyderabad capital of Telangana and 176km from Vijayawada part of Amaravati capital of Andhra Pradesh. The name of the waterfalls Ethipothala is derived from “ Eththi ” and “ Potha ” in telugu language it means to ‘ Lift ’ and ‘ Pour ’ and also it can be ‘ Height ’ and ‘ DownPour ’. There is a crocodile breeding centre in the pond formed by the water fall. Water from the Nagarjuna Sagar right bank canal is released in to the above streams to keep the water fall alive or flowing throughout the year for tourism purpose.

There are two temples situated at the bottom of the watefall named as Ranganatha Swamy and Dattatreya Swamy. Visitors have to get down few steps to visit these temples here we can do a mild trekking.

To visit the waterfalls from Nagarjuna Sagar, go towards Macherla road about 8 km and take left turn to Ethipothala Falls (sign board available) and drive for 3 km; the road is good throughout. For accommodation AP Tourism has developed a very good restaurant with two rooms and with toilet facilities at this place. One can enjoy half day trip at this place watching falls.

Timings: 6.30 AM to 9 PM. Entry fee: Rs 20 for adults & Rs 15 for children.
